LAURENCE
LAMERS
As a screenwriter and director, Laurence Lamers made his film
debut with PAID. He studied drama and movie sciences at the
University of Amsterdam. With his company Waterwood Films he has
directed and produced commercials, business films and short
films.
‘About four years ago I wrote a 4 part tv- show, Geworpen Munten,
about a callgirl, a hit man, a pornactrice and a smuggler. These
are the themes I used later on for a film script. This turned
out to be the first, Dutch version of PAID. Besides that, I had
written a script based on the novel De Gehuurde Hand by Luis
Ferron. Anton Smit from IDTV had an interest in producing the
film and Pia Douwers and Rijk de Gooyer wanted to play a role in
it.
Unfortunately the Dutch channels didn’t show any interest in the
film . I decided to take a different approach and to enter the
international market. Therefore in 2003 I translated PAID to
English. Despite the positive reactions on the script, I didn’t
manage to find a Dutch producer or distributor.
I considered producing the film myself, but I prefer to stick to
directing and writing . This is when I approached Silvester
Slavenburg, who I knew had an interest in the filmbusiness. |
